Today’s world is often demanding and stressful on our children. Just consider all that they are up against: childhood obesity, peer pressure, bullying, before and after care, divorce, EOG’s (standardized testing), busy schedules and school budget cuts. These challenges are quite staggering and stress is virtually unavoidable. Offer your child the benefit of a fun, non-competitive fitness routine that will help them BALANCE the equation – YOGA.
MY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCE:
In addition to being a mother of two, I have a passion for serving the needs of children and have worked with them in several capacities for two decades. I worked as a teacher, Assistant Director, and Director for Minnieland Private Day School in Northern Virginia for five years (2002-2007). I worked here in North Carolina for two years at Harrisburg Elementary School (Cabarrus County) as a Teacher’s Assistant. I was a foster parent to a sibling pair for one year through For Children’s Sake until the two little ones were able to assimilate back into their biological family. I have served as a teacher at Ruckus House child development center in Harrisburg for two wonderful years. Then I taught kids yoga at Ruckus House for an additional year. I happily worked as a 2nd grade teacher’s assistant at Pioneer Springs Community School and I loved every second of it! I currently teach yoga to adolescents recovering from disordered eating at Transcend ed. My life’s mission is to improve the lives of as many children as possible and yoga is the perfect vehicle. I regularly attend workshops and trainings that are relevant to childhood development.
HOW CHILDREN BENEFIT FROM YOGA:
Through learning yoga children learn anger-management, increased concentration, and experience a boost in overall self-confidence. In addition, yoga helps to strengthen the body and mind, and encourages self-control and self-discipline. I also accept and enjoy children with special needs such as: A.D.D., A.D.H.D., Autism Spectrum, muscular dystrophy, sensory processing disorders, and PTSD.
